The way Joanna Kulig’s face changes when she notices Wiktor in the audience during the performance in Yugoslavia: *wipes tear* Academy Award.
Really wish this had a bigger emotional impact on me (Ida being in my top 5 all-time favorites) and I desperately wanted more, but damn what a strong indictment of, as well as a case for, love. Their relationship is simultaneously volatile & crushing while beautiful and impossible for them to forget. And I truly don’t know a better performance this year (except perhaps Carey Mulligan in Wildlife). Beguiling and incredibly layered.
