Jeremy Nyhuis’s review published on Letterboxd:
All goo and no growth—Eggers's sophomore feature (which feels more like an extended short and probably should have been left that way) is for anyone who likes their Hard to Be a Gods neatly packaged and processed into digestible, familiar chunks. It all looks and sounds appealingly grimey, and Dafoe is a lot of fun, but this is a major step backwards from the thematic depth of The Witch, and its insular vision quickly becomes monotonous and predictable.
