    Promising Young Woman

    ★★★

I understand the mixed reactions toward the ending, and I even felt conflicted initially.

I still think it’s a solid ending that drives the message of “tell their stories, stop covering up for actual pieces of garbage” really effectively. It’s undoubtedly a super depressing subject matter on its own standing, but the tone of the film and the catharsis that one can find from Cassie’s actions would ultimately amount to nothing but hopelessness had the film ended minutes earlier.

This I also feels soooo strange to see nominated for a BP nominee, maybe even more than Get Out.

My biggest blind spot in Scorsese's filmography.

A cold, harrowing ghost story that is so precise to its time period and cultural zeitgeist (coming to terms with a world that allows concentration camps and hydrogen bombs) that it's nothing but masterful.

I thought it was already tough enough picking my favorite Leo performance, but this...this might take the cake.

I just didn’t care for the story, and I don’t think the (admittedly awesome) final brawl saves the 1hr+ that preceded it.

Bring me more Bryan Tyree Henry though. I wanna see Paper Boi in headlines!

I spent a lot of time these past few months seeing my grandfather’s mental and physical health deteriorate from Alzheimer’s. At one point I even had to call an ambulance for him when he was non-responsive, and he’s been in a hospital ever since. Like Hopkins points out about Paris citizens, my grandfather “doesn’t even speak English” really either - mainly French and Arabic - so even though I’ve never been able to have much substantial conversation with him, he’s…

Obligatory 4 stars for Uncle Naseem saving the day.

Seriously though, one of the most unsettling movie experiences I’ve had in some time.

    ★★★

I’m like 1/3rd of the way through this and idk if I have it in me to finish.

EDIT: I finished it. Was it enjoyable and nice to get to see Snyder’s version come to fruition? Yes. Was it really worth the wait? I can’t say it fully was.

Anyone who says this is better than the Avengers movies is lying to themselves. Anyone who says this is DC’s Lord of the Rings probably took too much acid.
