Imagine both Emma Stone AND Rachel Weisz wanting to fuck you.
Maybe Yorgos is too zany of an artist to compromise and create something this earthly. It almost feels like he's restraining his ambitions by conforming to period piece formality. There's a reason why I think his only great movie (so far) is a horror, in which its agonizing and chaotic moments enhance the experience. Here, they cause tonal shifts.
Maybe I just need to rewatch it.
In a vague sense, this reminded me of Phantom Thread. I can't exactly explain why, though.
I think this was the first time I've ever seen a movie with the theater all to myself. Late night showings are the shit.
