I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this movie and I definitely still will for a very long time. I said this about Manchester By The Sea but this movie is the most “human” film of the year (or realistic in other words). First off this is another powerhouse film by A24 and is one of the their best films, but the person who absolutely deserves nothing but praise is Greta Gerwig. Her style of directing is unique and honestly some of the most realistic directing I have seen this year, Saoirse Ronan (who was in The Lovely Bones) has really come a long way if it’s one movie that’s going to get her in a lot of roles like this it’s this one. The writing in this movie was extremely realistic, not once did I think this was being directed it felt like watching something you are actually seeing in real life. The writing also offers some pretty hilarious moments that I absolutely loved, plus it had some really sad moments too (which yes I did cry but I’ll get to that in a bit). The cinematography was absolutely well done, the shots were clear and felt so natural. The characters felt like real people, the movie does an incredible job of developing all of them and making you care about them because I definitely cared for all of them by the end of the film. But my absolute favorite thing about this movie is the relationship between a mother and her daughter, it’s honestly some of the most heartwarming stuff I have seen in years. But at the same time it’s pretty sad as well, which as I said before I did cry which never happens. Everything about this movie just gives me so many emotions, it’s actually a really beautiful feeling. Greta Gerwig’s ability to tell an extremely realistic story like this is just flat out incredible, I typically don’t use this word a lot at all (heck I don’t really like using it) but this film is a masterpiece. Overall Lady Bird is one of the most powerful and best films of the year, if you haven’t seen it and your theater has it please go out and see this movie you definitely won’t regret it. I can definitely see this movie being nominated at the Golden Globes and Oscars heck I can see this movie even winning best picture. Which is something the movie definitely deserves!!
