    Disney’s seemingly obsessed with twist villains nowadays, most of which are very meh, but King Candy/Turbo is the rare exception that fully works for me. The build-up to the reveal, what with the pink Castle, Vanellope’s feelings about “her code”, and Turbo’s voice in the flashback, are all effective in making the reveal feel natural, but subtle enough to not be too obvious. Plus having the main villain in this film about embracing your own identity be someone who can’t accept himself for who he is works well thematically.

    Fully envelops us in Barry's chaotic world, especially through audio. The blasting score, the cascade of differing voices when Barry's in public, the surprising sound effects of a car crash or of glass breaking, all of it melds together to create the same overwhelming anxiety that Barry feels so frequently. Sandler's seriously at the top of his game here, there's just this perfect combination of sadness and anger ever-present in his expressions and delivery that adds a layer of empathy…
