In the Mood for Love

In the Mood for Love ★★★★★

the small, unspoken moments in this movie say everything. there are sparks of genius all over, one of my favorites being the scene in which Su and Chow rehearse Su's confrontation with her husband. when she asks Chow "Do you have a mistress?" and he replies "No" several times before saying "Yes," you can see the longing in Su's eyes for Chow, on his own behalf, to say he has a mistress, meaning Su.

the climax, when the two finally admit to having feelings for each other, and the subsequent scenes of them having a heartbreaking sort of cat-and-mouse game in Singapore, is one of my favorite third acts in any film.

photographically, this film is like few others; its deceptively simple staging combined with elegant movement, vibrant production design and atmospheric lighting make for one one of the most visually captivating films I've ever seen.

I love this movie.
