I've changed the rating on this from 3½ stars to 4 stars and back about six times now, so I'm just gonna leave it at a 3½, but I really love this movie like it's a five.
Okay, so. This movie gave me everything I could possibly want in a Pokémon movie.
First, I got promo cards at the movies for the first time in 20 years. I literally have a Detective Pikachu Pokémon card on my person.
Yes, I was able to predict the plot twist. But seeing Ryan Reynolds' beautiful face was so worth it.
When Justice Smith first got to Ryme City I was literally in awe. It was so god damn awesome seeing Pokémon and humans interacting AND NOT TRYING TO KILL EACH OTHER. There was literally only one scene about catching. Most of the Pokémon appear to stay outside of their Pokéballs. It was a Pokémon Utopia!
The Psyduck was literally the second best character behind Pikachu. I don't know who did the voice acting for it, but they need a fat paycheck.
Really, most of this is just me wanting to live in a world filled with Pokémon. But all of the gags felt right, and the story was pretty decent.
I know man, this is fan service at its finest, but in the best way possible. And I liked it so much, I bought another ticket to go see it again Sunday immediately after we watched this because I enjoyed it that much. And I want more promo cards.
