Gone Girl

Gone Girl ★★★★½

When, in THE DARK KNIGHT, the Joker talks about “everyone losing their mind” when things don’t go “according to plan,” he gives us a few solid examples to back that up. Amy Dunne is the perfect manifestation of this concept, and that’s what makes her one of the greatest movie villains ever put on screen. She comes from a rich family, launched a successful career on her own, and is very attractive. She’s the picturesque spouse, so when she turns robotically villainous, it’s terrifying. Since nothing she does is “according to plan,” it’s impossible for the viewer to prepare for what comes next, which provides a chillingly tense tone homogenous throughout the movie.
