The Wrestler

The Wrestler ★★★★

The first half or so felt a little bit boring - it took a long time to say, yeah, this guy’s life is bad and he is self destructive in his personal life. The one thing that kept me actively engaged, however, was that Aronofsky clearly has no fear in explicit violence and gore. The other director that comes to mind in showing such graphic violence is Tarantino, but his is funny. This is serious and gruesome violence, which elicits total discomfort.

Having seen his other movies, I pretty much knew how it was going to end, but that did not stop the goosebumps. I guess the trick here was to have a mediocre body and finish off with a very strong ending, and it... really works?
