    John Wick: Chapter 4

    ★★★★½

a masterfully and methodically paced movie!! got me levitating on a natural wick high. i really enjoy this franchise of baroque international westerns. keanu reeves stoically cuts through the hordes like a water sign clint eastwood. the floating floor plan action scene had me holding onto a single breath!

the lawrence fishburne to lawrence of arabia cut made me grateful for all the larrys out there. i see you and i love what y’all are doing!

jake gittes, rifling through my wallet once i’m killed after taking a weird acting gig, moving quickly past my old UCB student card because it’s none of his business and quite frankly a little embarrassing.

saw with my friend who’s an LADWP employee who told us about the plans to move all our drinking water underground! all exposed reservoirs now are for wildfire response! the scenes in the desert at dusk! ah!

half fighting, half architectural digest video. these two men are so beautiful, they should let them hug (just one time okay!) jonathan majors is a supreme highlight!

off-putting and unique and expansive in a way that sits wrong with me, bugs me, like something interesting should. also a great way to describe the urge to vomit.

watching this on a 35mm print in a sold out new beverly crowd had me going "these people are beautiful!" and "this is in the spirit of howard hawks!!!" i believe in the rom com!

  • The Wedding Singer

    The Wedding Singer

    ★★★★

i know i rate this generously but it’s just too elemental to my developmental views of romance to ever really shake. sandler’s really quite good in this, previewing a level of pathos found so abundant in his later performances. there’s a little bit of barry egan, a tiny bit of howie.

strange kinship with call me by your name when the psychadelic furs hits. i used to frequent a store where based on the songs that would play i could…

    80 for Brady

    ★★★½

these dames! a perfect movie in my heart. rita moreno, 91 years old, grabbing a world class athlete by the beard, saying “i could shave you.” a novelty candy that also tastes good. the joy of humanity, imperfect and massive and tender and funny!

see it in a theater with a crowd if you can wrangle one.
