The Double Life of Véronique

The Double Life of Véronique ★★★★

The doppelgänger motif is used time and again in cinema, one could almost call it a style. Within styles there's always good and bad films, or better to say favorites and films you simply hate. The Double Life of Veronique for me, and for most of its audience, is definitely on the good side.

The film doesn't use the motif as a plot point, rather as a subtle present. That's what The Double Life of Veronique is to me, a magical parade of subtleties wherein lie hints and clues. A film you can see five or six times, and it won't bore you one second. And what other to expect from Kieszlowski, one of those rare writer/directors that know how to transform a story into a festivity for your senses.
