Joe’s review published on Letterboxd:
Its just lifeless rich people moping about their boredom living in fucking paradise. There's no emotional connection to anyone. No observations into what this fling even is. Its too sparse to really convey love and its too timid to at least be a good erotic affair. It's boring and hollow and limp.
The score feels like it belongs in another movie. Really rough lighting with massive inconsistencies between settings. Timothee Chalamet is a flat line. He's an expressionless twink with no emotion behind his eyes. Armie Hammer deserves better as does Michael Stuhlbarg who really seems to understand his character even if he's barely used. The only scenes that really work feature Sufjan Stevens music. So basically it requires a better artist to carry the film on its shoulders.
Also nobody can call Luca Guadagnino a good director when he made the call to cg out Armie Hammer's balls. A guy who'd make that poor decision would probably remake Suspiria and use no primary colors.
