Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I don't even know where to start.
This is the first movie I have seen directed by Clint Eastwood, and for the most part, I cant wait to watch more films directed by him. The sports genre has a tried and true formula; an underdog rising from the shadows to become a legend in his or her sport and it ends.
But this movie takes that formula and turns it on its heels in the third act. The ending broke…
Lady Bird is a fantastic coming-of-age story told in a linear format that really allows you to get to know the characters as they get to know themselves and thus, the impact is so much greater. I loved all the subplots, from Lady Bird's relationship with her friend to her relationship with her mom. I just was a bit underwhelmed (maybe that is because of the hype or because this isn't typically my type of movie) but it still was really really good.
This movie has a genius script. Little Miss Sunshine kept me engaged because of its brilliant dialogue that made this family come to life and feel real. Abigal Breslin is charming and the entire cast gives A+ level performances. The messages in this movie are also really important.
You can’t take this movie seriously because it doesn’t take itself seriously. The premise, “Disaster strikes when a man invites his dream girl to an island resort -but a previous blind date shows up instead,” is really fun. Lauren Lapkus is hilarious, over the top, but it works. Without her performance, it would have been a horrible film. It took till the end, but I emotionally connected with David Spade’s character at the end.
