The Last Duel

The Last Duel ★★★

There’s a really good film in here somewhere.

In the hands of a better director than Ridley Scott the weight of the story’s subject matter, and the talent of the cast (apart from Ben Affleck who has NO business being here) could’ve carried legitimate substance, and used unreliable narration with genuine gravitas and consequence.

Unfortunately some sloppy editing (real recent trend with his films) and lethargic pacing early on makes the unreliable narration feel like a procession at times, which is pretty unforgivable given the supposed spectacle that’s trying to be captured.
