I remember reading Shyamalan saying that he wished he leaned into the camp elements of The Happening, and that he hedged and it was too serious, and sucked. Very thoughtful analysis of why that movie doesn’t work. Here, he gets the balance right. From the swirling, boozy cameras to the accelerated escalation of calamity (befitting the premise) it was extremely entertaining. Thoughtful about what it’s like to be at certain ages, and how it might feel to be ripped out of childhood in an instant. Scratch the surface of the premise and a lot of it falls apart, but I thought it was very strong. Especially bold to release an anti-pharma movie now. Vaccines are great, but we should all still be suspicious of these creeps.
