Ok, I hadn't seen this film in over six years, but I was inspired to rewatch it because everyone was live-tweeting when it was on TCM yesterday. Here are my late-night thoughts:

    • My god, this is by far one of Hitchcock's most enjoyable films. It is so entertaining that you can barely feel the 2 hour and 16 minute runtime.
    • I did NOT remember how sexual this film was. Every time Cary Grant would say something like "Now,…

  • Notorious

Upon rewatch, I still maintain my opinion that Alicia and Devlin's relationship feels very rushed and not fleshed out enough. However, it's such a small complaint when you have the chemistry of Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman to carry the whole thing, in addition to the amazing script, memorable score, and beautiful cinematography and editing.

Hitchcock has some mediocre movies in his filmography, especially around this time period, but this is certainly not one of them. When he gets it right, he gets it RIGHT.

  • The Visit

    ★★★

What frustrates me most about this film is how amazing it could have been with a premise like that. But unfortunately, the writing wasn't strong enough to provide the social critique it so desperately wanted to tell. Instead, the townspeople are badly realized and turn into caricatures.

I LOVED Ingrid Bergman in this, though (shocking, I know). I love seeing her play such complex characters, and every time she was on screen I literally screamed.

  • Punch-Drunk Love

I was inspired to revisit this film because of Guillermo del Toro's tweet saying it was his favorite PTA. It's been a couple years now since I've watched it, and even though I gave the film a 4.5 rating that first viewing, I've always considered this film one of my least favorite PTA films (admittedly, i was more generous/lenient with my ratings back then). For some reason, my good memory of it had deteriorated and I really did not treat…
