The House of the Laughing Windows ★★★★½

Seeing this in HD blew my mind all over again.
Pupi Avati finds a baffling balance between a charming view of rural Italy and a deeply unsettling Giallo-Mystery. It's beautifully shot; warm and lush colors paint a homey picture of the Italian countryside. This starkly contrasts atmospheric the night scenes, which are incredibly effective in creating a distressing undertone to the picturesque visuals.
Storywise there is nothing to complain either. The viewer is highly immersed regarding the descent of our protagonists into a horrifying mystery.
Surreal, sleazy and intense - this is probably Avati's Giallo-masterpiece.
