John Earling’s review published on Letterboxd:
"Your sacrifice completes my sanctuary of one thousand testicles” is my new favorite movie quote of all time.
I’m not going to pretend like I understood everything that was being said but from I did pick up on, The Holy Mountain is a genius, surreal satire about the corruption of human kind and how one can find joy in life's simple pleasures. The Holy Mountain easily has the most jaw dropping imagery of any film I have seen so far and the production and set design is so well done that every little detail attracts the audience’s attention. It was also much funnier then I thought it would be and I often found myself laughing out loud at satirical elements or just the pure absurdity of a scene. It’s also crazy to me that The Holy Mountain somehow was able to criticize and poke fun at literally every part of human society from the art industry to fascist regimes. While I think that some scenes were added just for shock value, the Holy Mountain will stick with me for years to come, especially it’s perfect final scene.
