Film Club Secret Cinema, Pick by Kinsey

"V for Vendetta" comfortably fits with the hot streak of pretty good to astounding movies DC made in the mid-to-late 2000's, and this film fits more with the "astounding" category that "Watchmen" and "The Dark Knight" fit into. "V for Vendetta" feels like the right amount of comic book schlock & action pressed together with thematically interesting & relevant storytelling, complete with a totalitarian dystopian setting that comic book movies are not known for. The performances are astounding with Natalie Portman apologizing for the Star Wars prequels and Hugo Weaving doing a great job with the character, strong acting all around to bring the great writing from the Wachowskis to life. I'll admit I have not read the source material yet, but it's definitely on my radar with this great film in mind. Maybe when I read that I can discuss the film more, but for now, it's just a really great example of what the medium of comic book movies can do.
