    John Wick: Chapter 2

    ★★★★½

I'm happy to say the action is much more improved here with well-executed choreography that doesn't pull any punches and is not concerned with being realistic; hence, unlike the original, it unleashes a series of set pieces that are creative and last longer. The frequency of such events is also increased. Further, the world is explored more and I like the videogame-ish feeling of it. Overall, it keeps the merits of the original and rights its wrongs. A brilliant sequel.

    John Wick

    ★★★½

I liked this more because of Wick's character, dogs, the aesthetics, and the promising world rather than the action, because the latter isn't as good as it should be mainly because it's restrained and too slick to be fun and partly because I have just watched dozens of Hong Kong action flicks so I expect more punch and bombastic approach, so the underwhelming sensation is partially on me.

    Mission: Impossible II

    ★★★½

This movie features Tom Cruise at his coolest. The last 30 minutes almost make up for the immense shortcomings in the scripts with Woo's signature action opera taking the front stage. Too bad the series just doesn't align with Woo's style, but it was good fun and I laughed at the cheesy lines more than I should have "What are you gonna do? Spank me?" WHY? lmao

    Dersu Uzala

    ★★★★½

I'm almost at the end of my Kurosawa journey and I couldn't be more enamored with the erudite director. Dersu Uzala is another gem in his oeuvre. This is a story of a memorable friendship, an ethereal bond that portrays the best of humanity and Kurosawa, once again, uses nature to enrich the story, embellishing the scenery with snow-covered landscapes rippling away into the distance, the icebergs melting to a roaring flood, and the labyrinth of jungle that only a guide like Dersu can keep you on the right track.
