Jonathan Hatting’s review published on Letterboxd:
Planet of the Apes is a difficult film to rate as it is utterly iconic while not having aged particularly well. There is a lot to like about the film’s general ideas and plot; the ending is especially memorable. But Charlton Heston and his character annoy me beyond compare to the point where he is hard to root for. He is unlikeable and naive and in the end he acts like the animal that he is accused of being.
It was a fine watch, but I couldn’t help leaving it feeling disappointed. I guess that is to be expected from 50 year old films once in a while, but I had hoped there was more to it.
