I saw the trailer for this when I was 14, and I thought it looked dope. I knew it was based on the 7th book of the Harry Hole series, so I went and read the first book, “the Bat.” It was bad. I then gave up on reading the books.

Nevertheless, the movie has still intrigued me. What did it have going for it? An awesome trailer, an underrated soundtrack by Marco Beltrami, an insanely qualified cast, critically acclaimed director…

Some buddies and I have taken up chess lately, so I obligatorily watched this. It is very good. What’s so cool about this show is that it takes a very boring spectator sport like chess and makes it intense and fun.

It tells an engaging story that is simple without being too formulaic. It makes chess fun. Nuff said.
