The Favourite

The Favourite ★★★★

I'm still laughing about this film in fits days after first viewing. Lanthimos is an expert at crafting original language that stays with you longer than you want for yourself. His devilishly impish script is turned into something remarkably satisfying when told through the eyes of the equally impish Emma Stone (when directed properly) and the soft sternness of Rachel Weisz.

But the real "favourite" is Olivia Colman, who devotes her full self (mind, body, and soul) to one of the most jarringly charming yet effusively unbearably irreverent performances of her already strong career.

If the Oscar for Best Actress could be shared as a trio, we'd have our Hart-less Frontrunner.
