One of the best things to learn in life is when to get out of the way. Varda has a wonderful sense of how to go about capturing for education & dissemination rather than exclusively for creative satisfaction.
I thought I could handle Cassavetes at his loudest, his most chaotic and freewheeling... but this was a tough watch. The chaos overflowed and started to choke out the underlying film. Maybe this was just a bad moment in life for me to watch this one but it felt exhausting to watch, to try to keep up. I can't really say I enjoyed getting dragged through it yet it still has that one-of-a-kind Cassavetes charm that I'm such a sucker for that surely I'll rewatch it eventually and maybe even grow to "like" it, whatever that means.
