This time I noticed more the ways in which Rian ingrains cinematic language into a genre that is intrinsically literary.
The score slaps so much, as do Ana and Christopher's scenes together. Has turned into a comfort watch.

A great balance between honoring a legend the way she has earned, and taking a nuanced look at her career and decisions. Plus, there's a Muppet Show clip. So perfect movie.

It's exquisitely made and many sequences are truly stunning. I just wish it focused more on the community these men created for themselves rather than on the trope of the jaded husband and wife.
But fuck if it wasn't moving to see a Gay Period Drama™ set in Mexico.
