2018 favs

The payoff is truly satisfying, but this could've easily been better if Lee Chang-dong didn't unnecesarily over-extend a couple moments in the middle of the story. That being said, the film is beautifully shot in a wide ratio (which I'm a fan of, especially if it complements the plot like in here), with an extensive color palette and accompanied by a mesmerizing and engulfing score, the performances are top notch and the mistery and suspense Chang-dong creates with his direction works pretty well through the film; so it's not so hard to find compelling elements to carry on until that amazing ending comes.
