Josh Jommen’s review published on Letterboxd:
Not much, somewhere, sometimes.
Unhappy to report that this turned out to be what I had feared…
This reminded me of very very surface level ‘Being John Malkovich’
At the end of the day this film had very little impact on me, it quickly became a quirky gimmick fest that had about the same level of thought as a college student hitting a bong and learning about nihilism.
This films lack of grounded nature is what makes it unique, but ultimately ends up making it hard to really attach to these people or the ideas.
I will say, everyone was fantastic, great performances across the board that did their best to sell what ultimately fell kinda flat for me.
I got super into the filmmakers, Daniels, a few years ago and despite my lukewarm reaction, Im still very much rooting for these guys, I think they’re super talented and I’m still gonna keep my eyes out for what they do next. I highly recommend checking out their shorts on Vimeo.
