Before Midnight

Before Midnight ★★★★★

Watching these two characters mature has never been so gut wrenching and honest as it was here. Linklater, Hawke, and Delpy continue the story of Jesse and Celine by showing us that there is no fairy tale life or happily ever after in the real world. Settling down can be much harder than searching for love, but the rewards are real and tangible.

In one scene, Jesse is talking to some men about perception. And that is the key to these films. These characters' perceptions of themselves and their lives change dramatically every nine years. The experiences that the audience are not privy to change them, and we get to see them reflect on that.

I love everything about how these films are shot, acted, and written, and I would love to catch up with Jesse and Celine again in another nine years.
