Some past, unfulfilled loves linger in the backdrop of our lives long after their conclusion. Are we looking to find a substitute to fit the empty, previous mold? Is that mold even separate from ourselves—it doesn’t leave even after we climb a tall mountain, find a tree, whisper into one of its holes, and cover it up.
When two people meet one another, it’s not a singular experience. You are meeting a person and their ghost(s) from previous loves. Whether that be in how she delays her response to you like an automaton or how our journalist doesn’t land for anyone. The black glove, like the ineffaceable past, is always there.
Is there something pure and heroic in the lonesome road he takes?
