Part 2:
“The gods weep with us!”

There’s some serious craft on display here. Beautiful beautiful beautiful wide shots of the Japanese landscape, just lush and gorgeous cinematography all around. Some seriously intense performances here too. It’s rare to see intimate, small-scale, theater performances in such a large-scale epic. It certainly is a rather long film, and there are some narrative threads that were underserved that could have just been cut altogether. Otherwise, wow what an experience, and what an accessible adaption of Shakespeare!
