2020 RELEASES (IN THEATERS)
This is the first film I’ve seen in theaters since March, and whew is it good to be back. Had to go all the way to Jersey for this one, but it was worth it. Anyway, I’m the last person in the world to have seen it, but it was pretty good! Cool concept, not integrated especially well into the espionage premise, nor is it supported stylistically by any directorial/visual choices made by Nolan and his team. But it’s super cool, pulse-pounding, very exciting. It’s a little hard to follow, and that’s 100% because of the sound mixing. I wouldn’t mind that if most of the exposition wasn’t delivered through dialogue and literally nothing else. This type of sound worked for Dunkirk, but not so much for a talky spy film that requires attentiveness. Anyway, it’s still pretty fun, and it’s good to be back in a theater again. Thanks Nolan!
