Guillermo Del Toro’s latest film is a very enjoyable and dark twisted remake. His usual style of monster-fest takes a backseat in favor of the more psychological side of that to show the monsters that are within men and all that good stuff. A very good story about greed and ambition. I think Bradley Cooper is a very compelling lead in this and the cast is honestly stacked. Willem Dafoe is always a delight even in small doses. It’s a little long for it’s own good which halts the pacing at times but I was for the most part always intrigued. I saw where the ending was going but really liked where it went, I think that’s the sign of a well written story when it comes full circle. Overall, I would recommend this, for the dark visuals and the eerie atmosphere that Del Toro delivers.
