"Well, I would say that I'm just drifting. Here in the pool."
This isn't a fantasy.
This is real life.
And it kind of stinks.
This film is great. Great directing, great acting and a great story. Like Jaws, I think this film can also be defined by two acts. Act 1 being about Mrs. Robinson and Act 2 being about Elaine. The film is really just about how Benjamin ruins the Robinson's lives. Dustin Hoffman is so pitch perfect in this. He's awkward and uncharismatic in the right way. Doesn't have a ton of charm but is scrappy enough to be likable. This was the infamous legend's big break and he crushes it. I love this type of direction. Not flashy but very noticeably good. This was back when when colors couldn't really pop that much and you had to rely on stuff like...framing. Nowadays you just up the saturation and it wins awards.
So it was great. Maybe used Simon & Garfunkel's Sound of Silence one too many times in the film. Also there are a lot of montages in this. Depressing ones, I should point out.
Still great.
