Polite Society 2023
This delightful debut feature from Nida Manzoor packs a punch and a lot of heart. Scott Pilgrim meets Bend it Like Beckham that pays homage to both kung fu movies & Bollywood with a sincere story of sisterly love at the center. Priya Kansara is a standout & I can’t wait to see more from her.
It’s a shame the trailer gives away too much because most viewers will go in knowing nearly all of the story beats & the final reveal feels…

Ari Aster, Oedipus has nothing on you.
This film is very long, very indulgent & while definitely both surreal & absurdist, it is also astoundingly literal. Modern fantasy has been stuck in this over serious & gratuitously violent place for so long, this film is such a breath of fresh air. Genuinely funny, surprisingly emotional story beats and lovable characters that make shockingly stupid decisions that somehow turn out okay - everything that DnD should be.
