Jaewon’s review published on Letterboxd:
WandaVision just dropped onto Disney+ and I think it’s a really exciting way for Marvel to start phase 4. I rarely review TV shows but seeing as this is on Letterboxd, I thought I’d review the episodes.
While not filled to the brim with entertainment, I really respected how far they were willing to go with their imitation of early sitcoms. The hint of mystery is easily the highlight, and in a way, it reminded me of Stranger Things. This was a pretty great foray into the show, but I think the style wasn’t always for me.
This was a large improvement on the first episode. The comedy was much better, especially in the talent show, and it’s when I started to realize that the actors are doing a magnificent job portraying these characters in an ideal suburban lifestyle. The jokes landed more often and the elements of mystery are much larger here. I’m looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.
Current thoughts on the whole show:
The way this story can change is getting me excited. This is so full of potential. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany are great in this show and I really like the side cast too. The humor isn’t always for me but I love the details that really make it feel like an old sitcom. I also love the Marvel details, like the fake ad breaks between the shows. That was a really cool thing to put in! I have very high hopes for the future of this show. Also, releasing more than one episode a week is definitely preferred to both the entire show coming out in a day, and also to the release of only a single episode every week.
