Why don't their beards grow?

This was my second watch and it didn't go quite as well as the first but overall I still enjoy it. I think with the tension of not understanding everything gone, this second time I couldn't help but focus on how little of this makes sense... to the point that it feels kind of lazy as opposed to just being harmless little plot-holes. A lot of people have said that this feels like a Twilight Zone episode and I can see that but Twilight episodes were shorter and denser and didn't give you as much time to question the premise. I still don't really care for the ending that much either.

It's a fun and tense first watch but I don't think it holds up well to rewatch scrutiny.
