"It's something divine, something... our lives are too short for us to know properly." Szazados,
This is my 5,000th film logged on letterboxd! Thanks to everyone who follows me and likes my stuff!
I can barely do this film justice because everything about this movie is done well. The acting feels natural and authentic and the film is gorgeous. When I say gorgeous I mean super gorgeous. Bela Tarr makes a man peeing look beautiful. The cinematography is outstanding. In addition, it's an interesting story that kept me engaged for most of the 7 hours of the running time. Though slowly paced the film always feels like something is happening and I love that. It takes a little while to get used to the vibe but once you do the film becomes quite immersive. With so much time to develop the viewers get a great sense of space as well as real insight into the culture of the village, often feeling like a fly on the wall.
It feels like a movie as opposed to a mini-series or TV show and that is impressive to me. It's great and worth the praise.
