    Dial M for Murder

    ★★★★

Few things are more biologically satisfying than watching a mystery being solved (or said mystery being hilariously explained back to the perpetrator in the hopes of saving the person they're trying to frame). With the trappings of the genre, from trench coats and cigars to a posh London flat, where the entire film unfolds like a play through a series of conversations and barely any actions, building and maintaining the suspense is a daunting task, but it's carried out by Alfred Hitchcock here so all is well.

Ms. Scarlet's teal dress walked so Ransom's white sweater could run. When the camp is exceptional, we have no choice but to stan.

What a well-made, beautiful-looking whole bunch of unnecessarily angry nothing lol.

Game-like in more ways than one. Drink every time you spot a cut — by the way, not as difficult as I anticipated — or a Hot Priest or a Robb Stark. At times it feels like watching someone play Resident Evil 4, which is to say it's nicely-paced cheap thrills, but also has this lyrical quality to its cinematography: the salvation of blue morning light, the morbid majesty of white ashes. And that keeps you engaged enough to forget about the drinking game, for a while.
