The Night House

The Night House ★★★

Stumbles trying to wring meaning and emotion out of its metaphor regarding depression and grief (a bit too vaguely/clumsily written to fully resonant, should have leaned more into the confrontation of our mortality part of its anxiety of death imo) but is still largely a solid bump in the night chiller. Has some killer dreamlike imagery that actually manages to disorient and thrill, effective jump scares, and Rebecca Hall really going for it. As far as horror films go that is ostensibly supernatural in concept but is really about a character’s mental state, you could do much worse I think.
