    House of Wax is what some would expect to be a cheesy mid 2000’s slasher with its wanna be film star Paris Hilton, Supernatural alum Jared Padalecki and a slew of 20 somethings (that you may have seen in other roles), yet it’s somewhat different.     A Film based on a work of or invoking the name Bram Stoker

    Herzog’s adaptation of Nosferatu is wonderfully captured and acted. It emits a terror through its imagery and slow burn nature, something reminiscent of the 1922 version but with a 70’s flair and style that works wonders. I watched the German version, as it felt more appropriate, which really allowed for an authenticity to the performances and the world.

    That musical montage freeze frame was terrifying. 

    There’s a lot a small character moments where the camera lingers on them, for just enough emotional effect. There’s one in particular scene where Robbie (Nunn) looks sad and turns to look out the window as if to say “who’s going to save us now?” Or “where’d you go Spider-Man?”

    That and all the fun visual stuff even if the digital effects can look cartoonishly dated. It’s still good stuff.
