    The Woman King

    ★★★½

"Refreshing and yet frustratingly familiar, The Woman King falls somewhat short of its lofty ambitions. Phenomenal performances elevate a script that leaves much to be desired, falling back on its impressive action sequences to satisfy and entertain. The Woman King is sure to be a crowd pleaser, but you’ll be left lamenting the true historical epic it so could have been."

    Flux Gourmet

    ★★

"Although Strickland clearly communicates his commentary – it’s one of his most accessible films to date – Flux Gourmet feels almost as hollow as the pretentious artistry it presents. With its intermittent comedy and overwhelming lack of intrigue, it struggles to secure much audience engagement in its opening act and the remaining runtime is an on-going struggle to avoid losing it altogether. It’s a shame as the cast are quite brilliant and show the promise of Strickland’s writing here. Essentially, Flux Gourmet is a cinematic meal that rarely amounts to anything substantial and certainly won’t have viewers going back for seconds."

    Baby God

    ★★½

Somewhere in Baby God there’s a great piece about women who have had their trust, their very bodies, violated by a doctor who decided to exert unimaginable control over their lives. There’s a story about children grappling with who they really are, knowing that their biological father was a monster. And there’s a fascinating exploration of sexual abuse in the medical community, where a society that puts a great deal of faith in doctors can be blind to the exploitation and perversion of that trust.

Watch Tenet, marvel at its inner machinations, and watch it again, armed with the knowledge gained from your first go round. Tenet is utterly breathtaking.
