Ran

A magnificent depiction of family and ita self destruction when built around power. Mind blowing visuals, but expect nothing less from a Kurosawa epic. The undoubtedly beeeeautiful use of color continues to promote films as moving paintings. In possibly the most famous scene of the invasion of the palace, the mostly grey and gloomy color palette allows the vibrant candy colors to really pop. I struggle with the same problem I had with the only other Kuroswa film I've seen, Throne of Blood. Despite Kurosawa's eye for undeniably beautiful visuals, I cant help but feel a cultural barrier/muffler in the subtitles. Some of the mellow dialogue scenes in the Kuroswa films I've seen, just cant seem to click. So again, frustrated with myself, I dont feel comfortable giving it rating.
