I thought it was fun and fine enough, but I could also kind of feel the Marvel fatigue here. Gyllenhaal is okay, but ultimately wasted. I liked the “people will believe anything these days” angle, but I wish they explored it more. And having him be another disgruntled Stark acquaintance made it even harder to not compare this to Iron Man 2.
Lots of pros: Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove— all great; I liked the 60s-ish Italian pop music soundtrack; every Mysterio illusion sequence; JJJ’s appearance; that entire first stinger, actually.
Biggest con: that Skrull shit.
