Dean Pelton Voice: “Oh Wanda’s in this?”
Good but basically confirms I’m just exhausted from all the Marvel stuff. I was planning to watch this in theaters but was busy and then it’s suddenly on Disney+ and Paul is like let’s watch and I’m like yeah that’s for the best. I like Sam Raimi, and I’m glad he’s back. Wanda crawling out of that mirror or whatever and those things when Strange possesses the dead body felt very Evil Dead-esque. Zombie Strange fits Raimi like a glove. Overall he does a great job but he’s held back by a pretty bland script in my opinion. I mean it’s not bad but is really nothing special. It’s lack any emotional beats for me. With the original Spider-Man I will always go back to the moment where Peter looks back on his drawing with Uncle Ben’s voice plays over and get emotional. In Spider-Man 2 I’ll always get emotional during the final conversation between Doctor Octopus and Spider-Man. Hell even in the other Marvel films I’ll always get emotional like in Black Panther when Killmonger is stabbed. Nothing like that is here for me. Yeah there are quote on quote shocking moments but it doesn’t do to much for me.
Happy to see Wanda be the villain. I’ve always hated the MCU version of Wanda. Her character always sucked. WandaVision gets worse the more I think about it. If she was anything but a bad guy I’d be pissed. This is the logical progression her character has taken. This is her best portrayal yet. Even if her motivation is stupid you can still get it. Even though I hate Wanda I will feel bad for that one teenager I saw in theaters on this when I went to watch Everything Everywhere All At Once (which should be noted does the multiverse concept better in every aspect and as literally everybody knows and has pointed out is the best multiverse movie of the year) on this films opening weekend who dressed as her using the classic costume similar to the one from WandaVision. She looked real excited so I hope she liked it.
Like America Chavez a lot. Xochitl Gomez is a GREAT screamer. She should do some like actual horror films at some point.
Wong is awesome. Needs his own show or movie. Preferably movie so more people could see it.
The “Illum-whati,” joke is one of the worst in the MCU. I though it would be real hard to top, “Scooby Doo this shit!” So soon but here we are. The Prima Nocta and Bruce falling on Natasha joke are still way worse though. Fuck you Joss Whedon.
I didn’t care at all about the Illuminati. I love Chiwetel Ejiofor and I hope he returns again. His voice is so awesome. Didn’t watch Inhumans, never saw What If? I thought the John Krasinski casting was a total meme so I was kinda just like, “Oh. Cool.” I hope he doesn’t come back to be honest.
But yeah this basically confirms for me I’m mostly done watching these in theaters. Either Thor or Black Panther or Guardians will be the last for me. At least regularly. I’ll still check them out on Disney+ but if the movies are still just gonna be just pretty good than to be frank I have better movies to spend my money on.
Also what the fuck is with this Earth-616 bullshit? The MCU is Earth-199999! Stop trying to fuck with the canon. Eh whatever it’s not that big a deal.
