Friday the 13th Part III

Friday the 13th Part III ★½

Friday the 13th Part III is Friday the 13th Part II with somehow even less interesting characters, an unparalleled level of disdain for its audience and the most contemptible, repugnant level of shameless, cash-grabbing unoriginality yet seen in the slasher genre. Jason does finally get his hockey mask and it is in 3D so it can't all be bad, right?

Steve Miner returns to basically remake his previous entry in the series, which itself was an uninspired rehash of the original. After an excruciatingly long-winded recap of the events that transpired at the end of part 2 and an entirely pointless prologue which goes exactly the way you think it will go the action finally returns to.. yep you guessed it, the very same summer camp in which a spate of gruesome murders recently took place and a deranged killer still being on the loose. You'd think there'd be police swarming the place, but no, it remains deserted and we are introduced to yet another gang of youths only for them to be brutally butchered in various ways that some might class as entertainment, but really is just tedious.

I've been told this series gets sillier as it goes on and if it means breaking away from this repetitive déjà vu nightmare of ripped off ideas (there's a shower scene lifted straight from Psycho and even a 'Here's Johnny!' moment) then I welcome it with open arms.
