I fucking miss fantasy movies. That is to say at least larger studio fantasy movies. This scratched that very specific, child-like wonder itch that has not been reached arguably since LOTR back when I was a wee-lad.
Now that is to say that this and LOTR are vastly different films with different stories to tell, but they are still, I believe, to be the peak of modern fantasy and what the genre is truly capable of in the right hands. Sci-Fi has had it to good for too long dammit. I am a fan of both genres, I am not some maniac, but my point still stands.
BACK TO THE GREEN KNIGHT. This movie goes hard. The visuals, setting, characters, acting, score, everything. It is big fantasy vibes the movie. The story is more constructed in a vignette format, with a more cohesive beginning and ending. I enjoyed the more "it's about the journey and not the destination" structure since this story has been told a million different ways. In the end, I had a great time and I hope that this signifies the return of the large studio fantasy epic.
