  • Licorice Pizza

    Licorice Pizza 2021

    Cavin Hawkins

★★★★ Watched by Cavin Hawkins 11 Feb 2022

Barring a questionable aftertaste left by the climactic shot, Licorice Pizza is a vibrant string of earnest, honest vignettes presented with masterful precision.

    ★★★ Watched by Mae 22 May 2022

Man, I remember this movie having a chokehold on everyone when it came out.

I’m sure at the time of its release I would’ve found it absolutely hilarious, but seeing it for the first time now, it’s pure Ryan Reynolds that I’ve seen many times since his Deadpool debut.

Nothing quite uniquely funny, but still enjoyable and a fun ride.

  • After Yang

    After Yang 2021

    Mae

    ★★★½ Watched by Mae 14 May 2022

A tender and tame film attempting to tackle deep questions of the human experience. Not quite as fleshed out as it could’ve been, with multiple themes popping up briefly, leaving us with not quite much to grasp. But even with such a short runtime, Kogonada manages to nudge us into a space of quiet reflection at who and what makes us, us, with loss and grief intertwined.

  • Doctor Strange

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I don’t totally understand this. I thought it was hilarious and visually pleasing, and yet at the same time I was filled with sadness at the end. If I had to guess what this was about, it’s about the appreciation of art and the artists that make it. It’s about how art comes in different forms, whether it’s painting, selling, cooking, solving cases, editing, revolutionizing, and more. I think the film is an appreciation piece for the beauty found in…

    Crazy, Stupid, Love. 2011

    Mae

    ★★★ Watched by Mae 08 May 2022

Rom-coms that have multiple storylines tend to get choppy, and it shows in Crazy, Stupid Love. Quite cringey but did have some moments that made me laugh out loud. But the star of the whole film?

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. The best on screen couple ever and y’all can fight me on that 😤
