    Eve's Bayou

Raven Symone ain’t got NOTHING on Miss Moselle Baptiste. The movie was definitely filmed very beautifully. I throughly enjoyed all the shots over the Bayou, capturing the mysterious, intoxicating and alluring appeal of Louisiana. The film itself delves deeply into the minds and the ways in which we twist our realities to fit into the narratives we want to create. The movie does this beautifully, interweaving various storylines and foreshadowing events with just enough clarity for you to craft your own ideas of the direction of the story (and most likely be proven wrong). It truly shows that memory is not real.

So here’s my thing. I love a good visual. Cinematography is what really captures me and keeps into a movie for the long run. While this was filmed very beautifully, I felt the film relied too much on camera gimmicks and tricks to hold the viewer on. The story deserved more presence, dialogue and context for this to be truly fulfilling. It’s a decent film but it had the potential to be a lot more but it just lacked the necessary depth for me.

  • Pretty Woman

It was a cute film if nothing else than for Julia Robert’s portrayal of Vivian. Aside from that, I cannot get down with the overt glorification of capitalism, but it was the early 90s so what can you do.
