Hooptober VII: Horror Fanatics are such Easy Prey

“It’s ok. We’re cutting your arm off”

This freshman feature by Toby Wilkins may not be the most original or even well made horror film, but with it’s interesting premise and plenty of practical effects and gore it is a fun little diamond in the rough.

This may be stretching the “one location” criteria for this Hooptober, but the vast majority does take place at a small gas station so it works…

    Urusei Yatsura

Binged this series in record time for something so large (195 episodes!) Definitely a landmark series that inspired countless series and genres. From Tenchi Muyo to Darling in the Franxx, Urusei Yatsura has left its mark on anime.

Though it takes a bit, the animation truly showcases what they could accomplish in the 80’s. Especially when the show got surreal (which it did, a lot). It’s hilarious of course. Full of puns, sight gags, physical comedy, and wtf level of…

Hooptober VII: Horror Fanatics are such Easy Prey

    “It’s schnitzel time”

Remember how the first film ended with Karl the Butcher crawling into a crucified Jesus’s stomach and birthing Karl Jr? Well, forget about that cause this film never brings that shit up.

Karl Jr. is now our murdering sadist, being cared for by his mother (I guess) and taught by her murder fetish. What a childhood he must’ve had.

It takes some time before we get to the meat…

Hooptober VII: Horror Fanatics are such Easy Prey

    “Welcome home boy”

A dreamlike hunt through apocalyptic ghost towns leads the Phantasm survivors to another fatal encounter with the mysterious Tall Man.

A whopping 9 years after the cult hit, Don Coscarelli returned to the unexplainable world of Phantasm. Reggie returned as well, as memorable and balding as ever. Mike would come back as well, now played by James Le Gros. He’s no A. Micheal Baldwin but he does a fine…

    The Hurricane Heist

How am I supposed to hate a movie where our main character uses the hurricane to turn a hubcap into a killer frisbee, impaling a dude through the chest?

“Bad luck isn't brought by broken mirrors, but by broken minds.”

    Dario Argento’s fever dream.

A fantastical acid trip into a world of endless hallways, colors bleeding through the scenery, mysterious sounds echoing just on the other side of a door, a soundtrack of creepy ~ la la las~, and style, style, style.

It might be too soon to say this, but this is Peak Argento.

The atmosphere is so incredibly overbearing, you’re never in a state of relaxation. You…
